Weighted Stuffed Animals, Holiday Gifts, Winter Coats/Clothing/Shoes, and More
Bridge the Gap pays for items that enrich the childhood experience.
FluffyWeight Plushies
We provide FluffyWeight plushies to children who need additional comfort after being removed from their homes. Weighted stuffed animals provide comfort and support for children, including those in foster care, who may be experiencing emotional or sensory difficulties. These stuffed animals are designed to have a specific weight distributed evenly throughout their bodies, providing a gentle, calming pressure.
Holiday Gifts
We provide gifts during the holiday season on a case-by-case basis. Holiday gifts hold significant importance for children in foster care for several reasons: a sense of belonging and inclusion, normalcy and celebration, boosted self-esteem, emotional support, joy and excitement, opportunities for positive experiences, and strengthening connections. By ensuring that children in foster care receive holiday gifts, society demonstrates its commitment to their well-being and inclusion. It sends a message that they are part of the community and deserve the same opportunities as other children.
Winter Coats/Clothing/Shoes
We partner with local businesses, such as The Mattress Firm (Ticket to Dream) to provide brand-new winter coats, clothing, and shoes. Often, when a child is removed from their home, everything is left behind. Providing new clothing and shoes to children in foster care is essential for their physical, emotional, and social well-being. It helps address their basic needs, fosters self-esteem and confidence, promotes social integration, empowers individual expression, promotes equality, and normalizes their experience. By supporting them in this way, we contribute to their overall growth, development, and happiness.
Prom
We provide prom entrance fees, tuxedo rentals/cost of a dress. Prom can be of significant importance for a child in foster care. Some reasons why are inclusion and normalcy, self-esteem and confidence, social skills and relationships, creating lasting memories, educational and life skills, and empowerment.
ASB Cards
We provide an ASB card for students, each year. Some reasons why ASB cards can be important for foster children are the entrance to school events (such as sports), inclusion and belonging, academic support, and social development.
Yearbooks
We provide one yearbook per year/child. Yearbooks serve as more than just a collection of photographs and messages. They provide a meaningful and lasting keepsake for children in foster care, helping them navigate the challenges of their circumstances, foster a sense of identity and belonging, and preserve connections with peers and support networks.
